Call for proposals of ALBA II long Beamlines

We are asking the user community for scientific cases of the four possible long beamlines which will fully benefit from the improved ALBA II beam properties and its large source sample distance. Call for pre-posposals is open until 16 December 2022.

BASF and ALBA improving the batteries for electric vehicles
BL04-MSPD  | J. Electrochem. Soc.

The research has characterized a new methodology to produce nickel-rich cathode materials that optimizes the conventional production process, leading to an increase in throughput by a factor of three. The contributions of the MSPD beamline at ALBA have been key in these findings.

The user community of ALBA and AUSE meet in Barcelona

More than 140 delegates had the opportunity to meet in-person again at the X AUSE Conference and V ALBA User's Meeting in Barcelona. They shared the latest results obtained in many different scientific fields and discussed about the future of the synchrotron and XFEL radiation facilities.

Charge-transfer engineering at polar/non-polar oxide interfaces
BL29-BOREAS  | Advanced Materials

An international collaboration has demonstrated a method to control the charge-transfer mechanism arising at the interface between distinct perovskite oxides. Experiments at BOREAS facilitated the observation of the engineered charge transfer between the different components of the epitaxial heterostructures.

The ALBA Synchrotron, in collaboration with the FECYT, has made a series of five informative videos in which some examples of experiments performed with synchrotron light are reported. Subtitles in English, Spanish, and Catalan are available for all videos.

Batteries

This video, starring M. Rosa Palacín from ICMAB-CSIC, focuses on the search for alternative materials to manufacture batteries.

Industrial adhesives

This video focuses on the studies carried out by Henkel to produce adhesives that are efficient and environmentally friendly.

COVID-19

Two videos explaining experiments aimed at understanding the behavior of the virus that causes COVID-19 as well as possible treatments

Spintronics

This video focuses on the studies carried out by the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology to study new materials with applications in information storage and transfer.

ALBA is the only synchrotron light source in Spain. It is a complex of electron accelerators to produce synchrotron light, which allows visualization and analysis of matter and its properties at atomic and molecular levels. In operation since 2012, ALBA has ten beamlines and four more under construction. It generates about 6,000 hours of beamtime and hosts more than 2,000 academic and industrial researchers every year.
